Bad breath can be embarrassing and inconvenient, especially when you have no idea how to control or get rid of it. Many people suffer with bad breath, and if you’re one of these people, we have some tips that might help you!
If you have poor hygiene
If you have poor oral hygiene, you’re likely to have many dental problems, like tooth decay, which is a common condition that tends to cause bad breath. So, if you have cavities, please come into our office as soon as possible to get them treated. For now, even if you don’t have cavities, please brush your teeth twice a day, floss your teeth at least once a day, and rinse your mouth with mouthwash daily.
If you eat smelly foods
There are many different foods that can cause bad breath, including garlic, onions, and fish, but we’re not asking you to give up those foods. It is perfectly fine if you eat them, but you need to be aware that your bad breath might stick around for quite some time before it feels clean again. To help temporarily solve the problem, we recommend brushing your teeth, rinsing your mouth with mouthwash, and chewing gum.
If you are a victim of gum disease
One of the main symptoms of gum disease is bad breath. If you have bad breath and bleeding or receding gums, we ask that you call our office and schedule an appointment right away. The only way to treat this condition is by deeply cleaning your smile and removing the plaque from the surfaces of your teeth.
If you have a smoking or chewing tobacco habit
If you smoke or chew tobacco, it is highly likely that that’s the reason why you have bad breath. The only way to eliminate this problem is by quitting. If you would like tips and advice on how to kick the habit, please feel free to talk to your dentist during your next appointment.
If you suffer from dry mouth
Many don’t know this, but dry mouth definitely causes bad breath. If you have a dry mouth, you can fix it by drinking a lot of water, rinsing your mouth with mouthwash, sucking on candy, and chewing sugarless gum. These tasks will help you moisten your mouth and eliminate the bad taste and bad breath you’re experiencing.
We invite you to call our office today to learn more about bad breath and the treatments for it! We look forward to working with you and helping you find the fresh breath you’re looking for.
